A Verification of Competency (VOC) is a practical and theoretical assessment that confirms a licensed intermediate rigger (RI licence) remains competent to perform intermediate rigging tasks safely and within regulation. It’s not a training course — it’s a skills check, designed to meet WHS, project, and contractor compliance requirements. If your last formal rigging assessment was more than two years ago, or you’re changing employers or job sites, you’ll likely need a current VOC.
You should complete an intermediate rigger VOC if: You hold an RI High Risk Work Licence You’re starting on a Tier 1 or government project Your current VOC is expired or not site-approved You’re moving between contractors or job sites You’re preparing for an audit, pre-start, or safety induction You haven’t operated in a rigging role recently This assessment is suitable for structural riggers, crane crews, precast workers, and shutdown rigging teams.
The VOC assessment is conducted onsite using your equipment, ensuring accuracy and real-world relevance. You’ll be assessed on:
Use of rigging hardware and load control
Working with cranes, hoists, tilt-up panels, and dual lifts
Risk assessment and hazard control
Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS)
Emergency procedures and exclusion zones
Theory questions on legislation, roles, and responsibilities
Our assessors are TAE-certified industry professionals with years of rigging experience in commercial and industrial sectors.
